Refuge and strength in time of trouble

banff©Kris Kozamchak – A photo from my recent trip to Banff, Canada.  Verse for today: Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

After my first post, Let’s start at the beginning of the journey, I shared the link on Facebook and was overwhelmed at the support and comments. Here are a few of the responses (names have been removed).

Thanks for sharing!

I have fought skin conditions for years using different things. NAME has it. NAME has it. He has had terrible problems with his too. Sometimes nothing seems to help. Some days are good. Prayers

I remember how you struggled! I’m so glad to know that E has found relief.

I vividly recall your sweet girl’s struggle. What a blessing this blog will be to others!

I have eczema. I had it as a kid and it went away once I hit puberty. After I had my first child it came back. It’s awful and I feel for what you’re going through. I haven’t tried an allergist yet, but I think that’s my next stop. All the meds just make it more itchy and irritated.

I received this note via private message and cried while reading it.

I was so touched by your post and blog. We love E so much, and my prayers and thoughts are often with you and your family. Dealing with chronic illness can take its toll. You get lots of advice, from medical professionals, friends, and even strangers. Sometimes you welcome it hoping one day someone will mention something that you haven’t tried yet that could offer some relief, other times you just don’t want to hear one more person say “Have you tried this?” There is a helplessness that comes with wanting so desperately to help your child and not knowing what will help. But God bless you all for posting your journey. Families who never stop seeking are the ones who push solutions into existence. Lorenzo’s oil came from persistent parents who refused to stop looking, parents of twins with NPC pushed until they found something that would help their twins with blood clots plaguing their babies, a devoted son saved his father from chronic kidney disease. Whether for emotional support, or through inspiring yourselves and others to keep asking questions and keep pursuing answers…you could change the lives of so many. I’ve never known a strong person who had an easy path. Cling to your faith, rely on your strength and your family, and no matter what happens, God can use it for you and many others. Love you all!!

Thanks to everyone for your support as I chronicle this journey to healing. I admit that this is hard to share. Sometimes I feel embarrassed. Afraid. Hurt. Angry. But one of my biggest regrets is that we didn’t start to share what we were going through until things were at a breaking point. My next blogs will go a little deeper.
