I found this in my notes from 1/4/17
When there is no tv, no electronics, no room in the house to go be by yourself, what do you do? Play Clue (Simpsons version) and snuggle in bed.
After a rousing game of Clue, it was time to put the kids to bed. But first, a bath. Em went first. I was under the covers trying to stay warm while she was bathing when Sam comes, takes off his shoes and gets in bed with me. He said my hands were cold, like they always are, so he held them up to his mouth and breathed warm air on them. We talked about how warm and cold air can come out of your mouth. And he demonstrated. He hugged me and rubbed my shoulders and back, just like I do for him to keep him warm. Then he said “Mom, this is like that story about the old mom and her son that was a baby. Where she sings ‘I’ll love you forever I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” I could have cried. I’ve read the book (Love You Forever by Robert Munsch) and sang that song to my kids since they were babies.
We switched with Em after finished her bath. She came to snuggle as Sam took a shower. She asked me “Mom, what is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?” Wow, what a question! She answered first. “In gymnastics when I was afraid to get on the bars but one of the staff helped me and I did it.”
We went back and forth.
Me-getting married
Her- always trying new foods
Me- giving birth to Emily and Sam
Her-walking for the first time
I love the special times like this and I’m glad I had this one written down. Do you have a favorite memory of spending time with your kids?
