Pinky Promise

So you think you are a good parent. Your kids make it to school every day with a lunch packed, homework done (well, most of the time), hair brushed (about once every other day) and appropriate weather clothes (for my daughter, this means whatever she wants to wear).

Yesterday when I got home from work, I walked in the door and my daughter said, “You are coming to Pioneer Day tomorrow, right? Pinky promise?”

WOW.

Does she know that tomorrow I need to meet with my colleagues in Brazil and Mexico who are visiting to finalize plans for support? And our company has our Thanksgiving lunch tomorrow. And I need to get a couple of blogs for work finalized. I have so much to do.

The only thing that matters is that I show up. So I send a note to the lady from Brazil asking if we can meet later. I’ll show up right before the lunch with my store bought rolls and butter. I’ll stay a little late to finish my weekly report and blog. BUT, I will show up for her Pioneer Day.

I walk in the room and the smile response and “Mommy, you made it!” was all I needed to realize that she is totally worth it.img_9810

  1. Way to go keeping first things first Kris. Your colleagues will never remember the meeting that was postponed, and the value of blogs is questionable… Your daughter however, will always remember that mommy came to Pioneer Day, and you have a beautiful picture to commemorate the occasion… 😀
