Shadows

Everything is about perspective.

On a recent trip to Boston, I was sitting in the window seat of the 737, admiring the clouds as we shot up through what appeared to be cotton candy and into the sunlight.  The light coming in was so bright, I had to squint my eyes.  I looked inside the cabin and saw rows of sunlight and shadows like a roller coaster ride going up and down on the seats and walls inside the cabin.

I closed my eyes and remembered the day before, sitting on our patio.  Looking up through the leaves in the tree above me as the sunlight caused the shadows to dance on my legs.  I thought about the photo I had just taken of the inside of the World Trade Center in Boston.  Using black and white, it highlighted the shadows and accented the light coming through the glass ceiling.

Just the opposite of casting long shadows is looking directly into the sun.

Other alterations come as you look through a window with frost on it. And then as the sun dims, the shadows grow longer and the contrast deeper.

Please share you photos and creative ideas on shadows.
