Conspiracy Theory

The title of this post may lead you to believe that I am going to go off on a political rant again, but this is a little different. I believe there is a conspiracy by the fashion industry against boys. Now don’t laugh, let me explain.

Every year at Easter it is the tradition of mothers around the country to hunt for the best outfits for their kids to wear to church. These outfits should exhibit the colors of spring and reflect the good taste of the mother and child. The children are of course expected to wear these outfits all day long, through church, egg hunts, dinner and whatever else the parents demand. They are expected to come through the day with no chocolate, food or grass stains on the outfit.

All these expectations may be OK if you are a little girl, but they differ greatly for little boys. FIRST, you can at least find a cute, fresh, colorful outfit for the girl. Bows and bonnets. White patten shoes or sandals. Flowery dresses. Take your pick! There are rows and rows and rows of dresses for girls.

BUT, try to find an outfit for a boy. Because of work and travel, I had very little time to run from store to store to find an outfit so I quickly hit a couple of stores. Oh the frustration! In the first store, I could have found a onesie for my son if he was 6 months old. Or, I could have found khakis with a nice dress shirt if he was a size 3T or above.

Alas, my son is 2 1/2 years old (still wearing 2T) and nothing, absolutely nothing! I guess little boys are not expected to wear adorable little suits with ties. Dress shoes to match. Looking like their handsome father. Instead, I had to settle for dressing my son in a button-up casual shirt with khakis. Yes, he still looked sweet, but I was disappointed that he did not have a suite to wear on our Easter Sunday.

Maybe those in the fashion industry will hear my cry and design more dress outfits for boys. Thanks for listening to my conspiracy theory.
