I haven’t been on my soap box much this past year so I thought that with the primaries and caucuses happening, now if the perfect time to weigh in on some of the issues.
– Do we need change? YES! But to be honest, any new person is the White House is going to bring change. I think it is interesting that people think by electing a new president, things are really going to change. The president can propose changes, but Congress needs to approve. So we voted in a new Congress a couple of years ago and guess what, things are getting worse. And what do we do, blame the president who blames Congress. YES, we need a change but it needs to come from the people. Stand up for what you believe in. Sign petitions. Call your representatives. You have no right to complain if you have done nothing to fight for your rights and state your opinions.
– Will an evangelical candidate do better than a non-evangelical candidate? Not if he doesn’t pray anymore than the other person. We do need people who are moral and have a faith that will get them through the hard times. I do think we need to seek God for answers in our country. Our country was founded on the freedom of religion and the right to pray to God. BUT, I do think that sometimes we find someone who is saying the right things and we automatically are drawn to them. Before voting, I say pray.
– What really matters, terrorism or the state of our economy? Right now I am more likely to die in a car accident or plane crash than from a terrorist attack. We have given up too many freedoms in the name of National Security. Why do I have to have a state ID in addition to my driver’s license? Why won’t my passport do the trick? As for our economy, why the downward spiral? We have tried alternatives bio fuels only to have our food prices rise. We have electric cars and other means of lessening our dependence on oil and they seem to go unnoticed. Why are we outsourcing so much work to other countries? Could it be they take jobs we don’t want?
Stepping down off the soap box now, I will close by saying that I encourage you to do some research on the candidates. What do they stand for? What have they fallen for? What issues are important to you? And above all else, get out and vote. That is our choice and our obligation.
