Our son is {gulp} growing up

In the span of two weeks, our son seems to have bounced out the growth plateau and into a major learning stage. One Saturday when our friend Ellen was here, he decided he would feed himself (with his fingers, not a spoon). Maybe it was that he was looking for more of an audience than just mom and dad (that is Ellen’s theory).

Then, he decides that he is confident pulling himself up on the furniture. Well, actually it started with pulling himself up on mom and dad while we were on the floor playing with him. But once he started, he couldn’t be stopped. Joe had to lower his crib so he wouldn’t fall out when he stood up and pounded on the railing of his crib.

Now, he shuffles all the way down the couch and tries to move back and forth between the couch and ottoman.

AND, he is clapping! I think my tireless hours of playing Patty Cake with him finally paid off. One evening while feeding him (actually, we try to feed him but he won’t eat), he started clapping. Of course after every bite (when we trick him and get a bite in his mouth) we say “Yeah!” and cheer. Now he claps his hands when we say “Yeah!”
