Down in the back but trying to keep my spirits up

If you have ever had back problems, then you know where I am going with this one. For more than a month now, I have had severe back problems. To the point where I cannot bend over to pull on my clothes. I spend the first 10 minutes of my morning sitting on a chair stretching out my back. SLOWLY, SLOWLY inching my way toward the floor, wincing in pain.

After 2 weeks of taking prescription pain pills and anti-inflammatory drugs, I still have not found relief. In fact, this week I was in so much pain I took the medication during the day (I had only been taking it at night because it makes me sleepy) so I spent the whole day at work in a fog. I HAD ENOUGH!

I took of Wednesday and went to the Texas Massage Institute. I have been there several times but have been so busy lately that I have been negligent in regular sessions. I now realize why I need to go more often.

Keith, my massage therapist, tried to “remove the rock from my back” and see if he could help. I have to say, that was the most painful massage I have ever had! I almost cried a couple of times. If you have never had a deep tissue massage, it is not for the gentle hearted. It makes the saying “hurts so good” really mean something.

After the session, I was told to drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins and soak in an Epsom Salt bath (which I did in our jet tub). The next day, I actually hurt worse as the toxins worked their way out of my muscles. I hurt in places I didn’t know I could hurt. BUT…

Praise God, for the first time in more than a month, I was able to actually bend over and touch the floor without the intense pain I have been feeling. In fact, I am now able to pick up my son from the floor or his crib.

A couple more sessions and I hope to be back on the path of good health. Please pray for me!

  1. Oh honey, I know how you feel! I had the same kind of pain (couldn’t bend over, hurt to get in and out of the car, bathing the dog made me weep in pain) and I went to my doc and got muscle relaxants and anti-imflammatories…they helped a bit but I still have my bad days…maybe I should go to TMI too!
