Growing up

Our son is now four months old. He had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and yes, everything is fine. He is in the 50% of both height and weight. According to Dr. D, he is AVERAGE.

OH, but he is so wrong. Our baby is so much more than average. He gazes at us with his big, blue eyes and follows our every movement. He talks to us (in his own way) and even laughs and giggles. He is doing this thing now where he gurgles. He loves talking to Boris the Bear and Melvin the Monkey. He is so smart! When I leave the room, his eyes (and head) follow me and when I return, he is looking at me. Right where I left.

But of course every parent feels that way. But our baby is the exception. He really is wonderful.

Dr. D asked if we have any complaints. Of course we have none (except for the fact that he is supposed to be asleep right now but instead he is sitting on my lap as I type). Dr. D said that at four months most parents have three complaints.
1. The baby drools too much.
2. Everything goes into the baby’s mouth.
3. The baby is awake more and you can’t get anything done.

OK, so all of these are happening. But why is this a problem? You just wipe off the drool. Or take his fist out of his mouth. Or play with him when he is awake.

Maybe the cuteness will wear off, but for now, we will talk to him, read him books, cuddle him, and wipe off his drool.

Here he is with Melvin and Boris. Sucking on his fist, of course.
