Interviewing

Since the start of my maternity leave, a couple of job leads have come my way. It is exciting to think that there are companies out that that really want and need my expertise. It is also scary thinking that I am going on a job interview. I haven’t had to sell myself and my talents in a while. Unless you count pitching new business. I am good at that. I know technology and I know media and analysts. I am good at what I do. That I know. But how to answer those personal questions.

Tell me a project that you have managed that has been successful? Tell me a project that you have managed that has not turned out the way you wanted? What can you bring to this position? What would make you a good employee? Tell me what you would do if …(name the situation).

Thank goodness I had talked to a couple of recruiters and they gave me some pointers. A recruiter friend of mine from T-Mobile gave me some interesting interview questions to think about. And another recruiter helped me answer the all important question “So what salary are you looking for?”

One thing I have realized. Money isn’t everything. One of the positions pays better than the others but I am not sure how long I would be happy there. The interview I had today pays less but I could see myself being happy and staying there for a while.

Would love your prayers for making this decision.

  1. Good luck, Kris! Interviewing is so scary–I had to do quite a bit myself last year. The most important thing I learned is: give everything a positive spin. For example, if a situation didn’t turn out to your liking for whatever reason, tell what you learned from that experience. Positive info. is good info. to share!
