Away for a while

Over a week with no post. I am sure there are people holding their breath, anticipating what I will write and wondering why the pages have been blank. Let me explain.

Last week we were on vacation. Another explanation is needed here. Vacation is usually to some exotic place to relax or to a place you want to visit and enjoy the beautiful scenery, like the Grand Canyon. This was a visit to our families in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Not exactly exotic, relaxing or any place you would want to visit to see incredible views (except in the fall when the leaves change colors).

What we did experience was family and friends. A couple of my sisters held a baby shower for us and invited family and friends. I was so excited because it is hard to visit with every relative during a brief period so we were able to enjoy seeing everyone in one setting. My husband’s family was also holding a reunion during our visit so we were also able to visit his family all in one place.

To top off our trip, we went to a baseball game to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play. This was wonderful because both my husband and I grew up watching the Pirates and going to games. The most exciting part of the game, other than the two-hour rain delay with thunder and lightening, was the fact that Barry Bonds batted. The game went into overtime and he stepped out of the dugout to hit (he didn’t play the rest of the game but they brought him in to hopefully get a hit). Even as he stepped out of the dugout to warm up his swing, a chorus of booing rang throughout the stadium. To top it all off, the pitcher walked him so he wouldn’t have a chance for a hit. For those of you who are not aware of the controversy, Barry has been accused of taking steroids (and hasn’t denied it). This is not the role model I want for our son so I am happy to see fans taking a stand against steroid use.

More to come later.
BTW, the Pirates swept the series with the Giants!
