Finally a date night

The famous words “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone” are so true. My husband and I have had a date night every week since we have been married, which is almost three years now. With family in town and the busy lifestyle over the past several weeks, this part of our life had been neglected. Yes, we still layed in bed at night trying to quickly catch up on our day before we drifted off to sleep, sometimes in the middle of our thoughts.

It had been three weeks since we had a date night when his brother came back in town and took his daughter out for dinner, leaving us to share the evening. What may be viewed by others as nothing special (dinner at Olive Garden and frozen yogurt for dessert at Braums) was the highlight of our week. We sat and shared and even cried (OK I was the one crying) as we shared some quality time together. It is the most amazing thing in the world just to hear the words “I appreciate when you…” or “You really made me feel special when you…” this past week.

I am so grateful that with a baby on the way, we have so many friends who have already volunteered (with credentials in hand) to babysit for us so we can continue our quality time. Even with children in the house, there is no replacing the bond with your spouse. We do not take it for granted and we know that we have to continually work toward communicating and sharing. My love tank is full again.
