Bug bites

Today is more of a question than a log or journal. What attracts bugs, specifically mosquitos and biting flies, to certain kinds of people?

My husband and I were out working on the yard yesterday and cleaning the pool this evening. Within the first 5 minutes I was scratching a number of bites on my arms and legs. Nothing on him. I eventually had to go inside because my bites were swelling up so much.

I have heard theories that mosquitos may be attracted to your blood type, or it may be that you have more sugar in your blood (not a good theory for me since I am hypoglycemic), or that it is the way you metabolize oxygen which produces carbon dioxide (which they are attracted to).

I have read/heard that eating garlic helps, which may be true because my husband can eat an entire bulb (not just a clove) of roasted garlic in one sitting.

I would love to have thoughts on this topic.
