I don’t even know where to begin except to say that I never thought I would be the one blogging. A friend of mine said I should start this blog but I kept saying “there is too much information out there anyway and who would want to read ANOTHER blog.” Well, I guess having so much on my mind and wanting to keep a log urged me to go ahead and take the plunge.
First thoughts:
I am pregnant with my first child. There is so much on that topic that I really could fill up pages: Will we make good parents? Will my hormones ever be normal again? How will our lives change after the baby? Each day I will post thoughts and feelings on this topic.
On to my current thoughts:
I have been really burdened lately with things I see on TV and hear on the radio. I watched the movie Black Hawk Down this weekend. For those of you who have not seen the movie, it is about the horrible tragedy that took place in Samalia during the early 1990’s as a warlord took control of the food supply and starved the people into submission. Then, this morning on Good Morning America I saw a segment on abandoned babies in orphanages in Romania.
How can we (not just Americans, but people of the civilized world) sit back and do nothing? Are our own lives to important that we cannot get involved? I had the priviledge of traveling to Rwanda in 2004, ten years after the end of the genocide that took place, killing more than 100,000 people in less than 100 days. We stood by and did nothing at the time! I toured the genocide museum that opened that year in memorial of the 10-year anniversary of the end of the fighting. I cried.
I know my first posting seems quite dark, but I see how we continue to turn our backs on those in need and it sickens me. Tomorrow may be a better day.
To end my first posting on an up beat, my parents are coming to visit next week. My dad already has a “daddy-do” list to complete with my husband and hopefully my mom and I can get working on a baby’s room.
I pray today that your eyes are opened and your hearts touched.
